Social Groups Help Kids Sharpen Skills

For many children, developing appropriate social skills while they’re dealing with other issues can be a challenge. SLDCenter offers a variety of Social Skills Groups, based on age and the needs of the children within those communities.

Children may need help with social skills due to many factors, including autism, developmental delays, cognitive deficits, and/or difficulty with feeding skills. Children born in another country also may need help learning appropriate American social skills.

Some children who can’t articulate or physically participate in activities may have excellent social skills. So we adapt all our social groups to the needs of the children involved.

For children with ADD or ADHD diagnoses, social groups focus on helping children refocus and self-regulate. “When a child is unable to focus or pay attention, he or she may not have developed social skills as quickly as their peers. We can help them”.

In addition to their individual needs, children are typically assigned to social skills groups based on their age and their needs. This may be their actual age or their developmental age.

Social skill lesson may include, but are not limited to:

maintaining     topics, reading verbal/non-verbal communication cues.)
